COMPASS Training Center Conducts first ever Danish Medical Care course in the Philippines

In yet another pioneering endeavor, Compass Training Center recently held the first ever Danish Medical Care Course in the Philippines last August 29, with a pilot class of 12 participants from TORM Philippines.

The course was a huge success and was conducted by Mr. Rene Gyaard and Mr. Kent Jensen, experienced nurses and licensed by the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA).

The Course is significant to Filipino seafarers who are Masters and/or designated medical officers onboard all Danish flagged vessels, as it is mandatory and required by the Danish government, whose mandate is taken from the Danish Legislation itself. This legislation has been endorsed already since the 90s, but only Danish nationals who comply with it as during that time Danish ship-owners was still not open to other foreign seafarers.

This requirement is an additional requirement to the current STCW Medical Care course for all those boarding Danish owned vessels. The Danish Medical Care is a five (5) day course and can only be conducted by authorized medical practitioners approved by the DMA. The course is specific only to Danish Flag regulations and is strictly followed and kept in High standard.

Compass President Dakila Villanueva said that the course is limited only to eight (8) participants to allow each trainee to a have practical experience on the equipments they will be using during the training. Certification for completion of the said course will be issued by the DMA. Danish Medical Care is offered only in three (3) countries, Denmark, India and now the Philippines via COMPASS Training Center.

Villanueva expressed his optimism and happiness in being able to ring the Danish MECA to the country. “After being the first and only TOTS provider in the Philippines, we are now offering Danish MECA”, he said adding that this just shows the kind of commitment COMPASS has as a training center in bringing quality training for both Filipinos and foreigners to avail.
