A strong blend of respected international speakers, a thought-provoking agenda and the presence of leading industry players is turning the 12th Asia Pacific Manning and Training Conference into one of the most important international conferences to be held in the Philippines this year.

The event will bring to Manila more than 350 participants representing 40 of the biggest international maritime companies from over 22 countries.

Among the companies attending the conference are OSM Maritime Services, ASP Crew Management, Sinocrew Maritime Services, V Ships India, Wallem Shipmanagement, Australian Maritime College and the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific among others.

Even more individual participants and companies are expected to register in the coming days at the conference, which will be held from November 16 to 17 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza.

Considered as the world’s foremost maritime manpower conference, the event features a skilfully balanced blend of pivotal topics held together by the theme: “Recruiting, Training and Retaining Competent Seafarers: Strategies for the Future”.

Highlighting the event is an address from the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Neil Frank R. Ferrer, chairman of the IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee and President of the 2010 Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) Diplomatic Conference in Manila, is expected to give delegates the latest developments at the IMO, particularly the status of the Manila amendments to the STCW code.

Another highly anticipated address is Philippine Labor Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Bandoz’s talk on how the Philippines, the world’s largest crew supplier, is keeping pace with demands for higher standards and competency for seafarers. Other key topics include “Piracy: The human cost”, “Seafarers Rights – why do they matter” and an update on the Maritime Labor Convention (MLC 2006).
